About the Book

COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS: Navigating Technology Leadership as a Minority in IT is a practical guide for aspiring and emerging CIOs who refuse to navigate their careers without a roadmap.

PURPOSE AND NEED: This book addresses what most leadership books avoid: the isolation of being the only one in the room, the politics that determine who rises and who stalls, the cost of integrity when compromise would be easier, and the emotional weight of leading through crisis when the pressure is invisible to everyone but you. Dr. Mark Campbell shares his unfiltered journey from a childhood shaped by poverty, resilience, and faith to becoming a technology executive at the highest levels. Through powerful storytelling and practical reflection, each chapter delivers hard-earned lessons structured for action, not theory.

Whether you are preparing for your first executive role or navigating the complexities of one you already hold, this book meets you where you are. It challenges assumptions. It sharpens strategy. It reminds you that your presence carries purpose.

CHAPTER STRUCTURE: Every chapter includes Leadership Questions, Immediate Action Steps, and Closing Principles designed to move readers from insight to implementation.
